Preas” is a Rio graffiti writer who spans the gulf between tagging, known in Brazil as pixacão, and traditional beautifying street pieces. This is a recent sample of his work in the Catête neighbourhood. His tag can be seen on the top left of the wall above the painting. Pixadores are immensely unpopular in Rio because of the mess they make. The literal translation of the word means ‘scrawl’. At the same time they are the essence of the graffiti community and pixadores who achieve all city status are folk heroes to many young cariocas.

Women are Heroes will be in competition in Cannes. This is my friend JR’s film about his worldwide project to document the stories and paste the faces of women in India, Cambodia, Kenya and Brazil. This is really exciting news. Everything about this project so far has been amazing. Watch out!


I was lucky enough to catch this tropical mural on one of its last days. This painting by the genius twins from Sao Paulo, Os Gemeos, has been brightening up life for New Yorkers for the past 8 months and as of tomorrow will be no more…
